Working a Home Based Marketing Business
When most people reckon about starting their own home based marketing business it is for several reasons. They want to “be their own boss, write their own paycheck and work whenever they want.” That’s exactly why most of us get into this business. But, consider these few tips when setting up your marketing business.
My favorite “perk” of working from home is no boss standing over my shoulder. I no longer have to fight the daily commute to and from the office and there’s no tiny cubicle to call “home” for 8 hours a day. But, even working from home there are things that you need to take into consideration.
Working from home requires some discipline and a certain mind set. You really need a routine on a daily basis. Right, you no longer have anyone to tell you when and how long to work, but if you don’t get into a routine most likely the work won’t get done. It doesn’t matter whether you work in the morning, in the afternoon or in the wee hours of the morning. It can even be spread out over small periods at a time during the day. That is one of the fantastic things about working for yourself. You choose when to work and how long, as long as you stick to your routine.
Also consider you need your own “work space.” Somewhere that everyone knows you are “working” and “please do not disturb”. Place a “working” sign on your desk so everyone will know that you are busy at the moment. If you are constantly being interrupted it’s really no different than that ancient cubicle back at the ancient job. Which brings up another fantastic perk of working your marketing business from home. You can make your office pretty much anywhere you have an internet connection. The den, a spare bedroom, out on the deck, or my personal favorite, out by the pool.
These are a few of the lessons I learned while building my home marketing business from the ground up. I hope you found them helpful.
